Sofia Welcomes the Season of Big Anniversaries

In 2018 several important institutions in Sofia will celebrate various anniversaries: Sofia History Museum - 90 years since the founding of the museum in the capital, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra – its 90th season, and Stefan Makedonski National Music Theatre – 100 years of professional operetta in Bulgaria and 70 years since the establishment of the theatre. In 1908 - exactly 110 years ago, the Bulgarian Opera Company was founded when it presented its first productions and later underwent different transformations in order to turn into the present-day Sofia Opera and Ballet which today presents brilliant performances as a guest production at major opera centers around the world and on the Bulgarian stage – not only in the building of the Opera, but also in the Military Academy Park as well as among the natural scenery of the natural phenomenon Belogradchik rocks and the big caves of Bulgaria.

All these institutions present the cultural values of Sofia, create its cultural image and offer unforgettable encounters with art and preserved knowledge. They are part of Sofia’s cultural product.
