The programme assists event planners with everything needed to realise their projects in the Bulgarian capital. How It Works
Sofia’s Subvention framework is designed to support events that generate measurable value for the destination, both in terms of international visibility and economic contribution. It focuses on events that have the following: direct economic impact; International business events that bring measurable benefits to the local economy.
1. Eligible
Public or private organisations, whether registered in Bulgaria or abroad, acting as hosts or official representatives of the event.
2. Ineligible
Entities in bankruptcy or insolvency proceedings. Political parties or affiliated Organisations.
3. Event Eligibility
3.1 Eligible
- Held at a paid venue in Sofia.
- Minimum 50 participants (excluding organisers).
- At least 50% of attendees are travelling from abroad specifically for the event.
- Duration of at least 1.5 days (ideally 2) with a minimum of 4 hours of seminar content per day.
- Aimed at a professional audience.
- Conducted in person (hybrid participation allowed only in exceptional circumstances). Incorporating sustainable event management practices.
3.2 Ineligible
- Fairs, exhibitions, expos, and similar events.
- Sports, cultural, entertainment, or recreational events.
- Festivals, competitions and hackathons.
- Galas, award ceremonies, Christmas parties, or other leisure-oriented gatherings.
- Events organised by political parties.
- Venue rental.
- Audio-visual equipment.
- Accommodation in classified establishments.
- Transfers and transport services.
- Catering and meals.
- Marketing and advertising (when using local suppliers).
4. Funding Coverage
Funding is provided after the culmination of the event and is based on verified documentation such as invoices, proof of expenditure within the city’s jurisdiction, attendee statistics, and evidence of destination branding.
