The renovation of the emblematic rosarium in Borisova Gradina Park located next to Vasil Levski National Stadium has begun. A complete reconstruction will be carried out in the span of 180 days. An automated irrigation system and park lighting will be installed, a decorative fountain and special constructions that will support climbing species will also be built. More than 2000 roses of different types of hybrid tea, polyantha, miniature, climbing, tree and rambling roses will be planted. The rosarium has been part of Borisova Gradina Park since the beginning of the 20th century. It was created in 1910 by the gardener Joseph Frei who constructed several farm buildings, built rose alleys and started organizing annual flower exhibitions there. The first significant reconstruction of the Rosarium was 84 years ago – in 1934, when 1400 roses specially brought from Germany were planted.
