On September 17, when the Christian world commemorates the holy martyrs Faith, Hope and Love and their mother Sophia, the Bulgarian capital celebrates its own holiday. This year the Bulgarian capital is celebrating throughout the whole month and is offering a variety of cultural and sport events including the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship (September 7–16) and three FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship games (September 21,22 and 23) as it is the European Capital of Sport 2018. On the Day of Sofia – September 17, at 12:00 o’clock you can enjoy Sofia Jazz Formation’s concert in front of Sofia History Museum. The official ceremony of raising the flag of Sofia and Blessing of Water will take place at 1:30 pm in front of Saint Sophia Basilica. Sofia Municipality’s awards ceremony for outstanding achievements in the field of culture will be held in Ivan Vazov National Theatre at 7 pm.
