In 2019 Sofia Municipality will launch the pilot program Cultural Heritage in order to preserve its cultural monuments for future generations. The aim of the program is to support and encourage the owners to preserve the immovable cultural heritage, as well as investment projects for the restoration, conservation and socialization of immovable cultural heritage.
The preservation and protection of cultural heritage is a very important priority of millennial Sofia. On its territory there are 1,400 cultural assets from different periods, and nearly 60% of them are in the center of the city. Up to now, 118 buildings with a status of a single cultural property have been restored in the central city area.
Vazrazhdane district in Sofia started work in this direction as early as 2015 with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with the 3rd district of Paris - Le Marais. Thus, in this part of Sofia, they have actively worked with the owners of private properties - monuments of culture, and 42 private old buildings have been restored so far. There are currently procedures for the conservation and restoration of 13 other monuments of culture in Vazrazhdane district.
Sofia City Council will soon discuss and consider the Cultural Heritage Program. All owners of buildings representing immovable cultural heritage in the categories "national importance", "local importance", "ensemble significance" and "for information" on the territory of Sofia Municipality will be able to apply.
