Sofia Celebrates its 140th anniversary as the Capital of Bulgaria

Sofia will be celebrating its 140th anniversary as the Capital of Bulgaria for two months. On April 3 – the day Sofia was chosen to be the Capital of Bulgaria 140 years ago, you will have the opportunity to visit Sofia History Museum, Sofia City Art Gallery, Vrana Park-Museum and Sofia Zoo for free. The TV premiere of the full-length documentary 105 Minutes Sofia will be on April 3, 2019 on BNT. For the first time Sofia will present a movie which traces the whole history of the city – from 6200 BC till present days. In Landzhaev and Vodenicharov’s film you will see all historical stages the city has gone through – its triumphs and falls, all great personalities that left their mark in this city: Constantine I the Great - the first Christian Roman emperor, Roman and Byzantine emperors, kings, pashas and those who built Sofia with love - the ordinary people. In April and May, a series of concerts of the ensembles of the Municipal Cultural Institutes will be held at the Largo in Sofia and numerous events will take place around the whole city.
