A workshop with cultural operators and representatives of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission was held at Sofia Youth Innovation Lab at the invitation of the Mayor of Sofia, Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova. During the working meeting, a new tool for monitoring creative European cities was presented. The monitoring is carried out in 30 European countries. Sofia is one of the 168 cities where the “cultural vibrancy”, “creative economy” and “enabling environment” of a city are evaluated.
The goal is to encourage exchange of experience and to assess the role of culture and creativity in improving the social and economic situation of the cities. A key indicator for Sofia is the number of people working in the field of art, culture and entertainment, as well as new media and communication. The capital shows growth in terms of other creative sectors and potential for accessibility of the constructed infrastructure connected to culture.
An application that aims to map the cultural life of the cities and expand their potential in terms of audiences and process visibility was also presented. This meeting was the beginning of a long-term cooperation in the collection and summarization of data with the active participation of all involved in the cultural life.
