At the end of January, the Embassies of France and Germany organized Sofia Game Jam Week in Sofia in order to provoke thinking and inventiveness and to stimulate young people’s creativity and education. The event took place over three consecutive days at the Cultural Institutes of France, Germany and Poland. Similar initiatives are regularly held in Sofia as the information technologies here are among the fastest growing industries and account for 5.7% of the city's economy, while the videogame production – for over 20%. In recent years the capital of Bulgaria has established itself as a regional center of information and communication technologies with over 40 000 people working in the IT sector. Sofia Municipality has also started to organize hackathons at which specific tasks are assigned - urban development problems that are solved by young people. The Municipality helps the winners develop their ideas. There are already several startups that have originated from these hackathons.
