Sofia invests in innovations, culture and green systems - these are the three main focal points of the Bulgarian capital. Sofia really adheres to its motto - it grows but does not age. The New Forest afforestation initiative once again attracted hundreds of volunteers who worked till the beginning of November. With the newly planted saplings, the new green belt around Sofia has 26,200 plants more.
The investments in new cultural spaces and in renovations of already established ones are also visible - during the year funds were invested in the renovation or repair of temples and various emblematic sites in Sofia – Crystal Garden and Kliment Ohridski Garden near Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. At the beginning of 2019, after being renovated, Slaveykov Square will once again be alive and buzzing. The outdoor book market will welcome you with its books and workbooks but this time the stands will be under a beautiful two-level pergola roof covered with colorful awnings. The fountain will be renovated and new benches and bicycle stands will be constructed for the guests and residents of Sofia.
The number of galleries in Sofia is also growing and in 2019 one of them will be under the site of the former mausoleum of the socialist leader Georgi Dimitrov.
In the field of innovation, Sofia continues its development as a model of an intelligent city that invests in science and technology and takes bold steps towards the future.
