For the 9th consecutive year more than 200 pilgrims experienced unforgettable moments during the Rila Miracle Maker pilgrimage by walking from Sofia to Rila Monastery and thus crossing three mountains – Vitosha, Verila and Rila. Traditionally, the pilgrimage starts from St Sophia Basilica in the capital on August 1 (Dormition Fast ) and finishes at Rila Monastery on August 6 (Transfiguration of Jesus). This pilgrimage, which is more than one hundred kilometers long, is organized by the Faculty of Theology at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski with the blessing of the Holy Metropolis of Sofia and with the cooperation of Sofia Tourism Administration, Sofia Municipality. Laymen of all ages and from all over the country were led by several clerics of Sofia Bishopric. The aim is to revive the ancient traditions of pilgrimage and give everyone the opportunity to share their thoughts, spiritual insights, joys and trials on their way to Rila Monastery.
The next pilgrimage is Intercession of the Theotokos Pilgrimage which is to Kremikovtsi Monastery of Saint George. It takes place on October 1 and starts at 8 am from St Petka Church in Kremikovtsi Quarter, Sofia.
