Description
The building of the National Assembly – a symbol of Bulgarian statehood – was completed within a single year. In February 1884, the government headed by Petko Karavelov, entrusted the project to architect Konstantin Jovanovich. The neo-Renaissance architecture of the original design was kept and expanded to the north in the two follow-up annexes to the building. The National Assembly building has a preeminent place in the composition of the square of the same name.
