Description
Information - St. Nicholas of Sofia is the largest church in Sofia and is dedicated to St. Martyr Nicholas of Sofia, killed by the Turks in 1555. The tomb of St. Nicholas - one of the few famous tombs of Bulgarian saints, is located 300 meters away from the temple. The temple houses one of the most beautifully made iconostasis in our country - it is characterized by exceptional ethereal beauty and finesse in details. Its frescoes are mostly the work of the great Russian artist Rostovtsev. History: St. Nicholas of Sofia Church was consecrated on December 3, 1900 in Yuchbunar (Three Wells) - between present-day Pirotska St., Opalchenska St., and Tsar Simeon St. The construction of the temple was completed after 20 years of difficulties in preparing plans and permits, raising funds, carrying out construction activities, etc.
